Overall Rating: 4.7 / 5 (Excellent)

American Home Shield's coverage is among the most comprehensive we've seen in the industry. The company covers considerably more appliances and systems than its competitors and has fewer coverage limitations.

The company recently updated its plans—they now have three to simplify choosing the right one for your home. American Home Shield focuses on the repairs that offer the most value to consumers, removing items that are inexpensive to replace, increasing its coverage limits on appliances in its most expensive plan to reflect today's higher-priced, "gourmet" appliances, and adding roof leak coverage.

Coverage Options - 4.7 / 5

American Home Shield offers consumers a choice of three plans, following a good-better-best model. Its ShieldSilver plan warrants systems only, but can be amended with certain add-ons, including pools, electronics, and guest houses. Its ShieldGold plan covers a range of systems and appliances, again with add-on options. Its ShieldPlatinum plan covers everything in the ShieldGold plan, plus roof leaks up to $1500 and some routine maintenance services. These include free HVAC tune-ups, unlimited top ups on your AC refrigerant, coverage for code violations including permits.

All told, American Home Shield covers 23 systems and appliances, considerably more than most of their competitors, and fully covers 11 of those items. There is no limit on the number of claims a customer can file over the year’s contract, either.

Contract & Price - 5 / 5

American Home Shield has a flexible pricing policy and offers three different coverage plans and two trade service call fee levels: $100 and $125.

This allows consumers to have input into the annual price based on their budgetary needs.

We requested a quote for a single family home under 5,000 square feet located in a medium-sized midwestern city. The minimum annual premium (Shield Silver Plan) was $59.99 per month. The maximum premium (Shield Platinum Plan) was $109.99. So AHS prices are somewhat higher than many competitive plans. Consumers should note that their final price will vary by plan, service call charge selected, and location.

I'm very disappointed with this company. Our freezer had a problem since April of 2016. I requested the service. Technician came several times but couldn't fix it. No ice machine working for whole summer in Fresno!! The technician suggested to request another service over same freezer issue, now they want to me pay another $75 for the same problem which was never been fixed. Other company came and tried to fix it again. We still have same issue with the freezer, customer service doesn't even answer my call. I am on hold for 2hours now. I have to get a legal advise over this problem. I DON'T recommend this company at all. Please think twice before you go with this company.

I have used the contractor in the past and will continue to use his service pertaining to the service in of my heating and cooling unit in the Spring and Fall. I first used his service in response to a service order through AHS. His company is professional, timely and responsive. It is a pleasure to deal with his company. I have also recommended his company to my friends. He is a credit to your program.

I recently submitted a claim to have a pool pump replaced. The claim was handled promptly and I received a call from the contractor the next day. I actually needed to replace 2 pumps. The approved my repairs and the contractor completed the work as scheduled. It was a great experience.

Our dishwasher was not cycling properly. The contractor arrived on schedule, analyzed the problem and ordered parts to be shipped to our addressed. He scheduled an appointment to install the new parts. The contractor took care to keep the floors clean and was very professional

If you call, you will be put you on hold for over an hour before you can talk to anyone. The companies they arrange for repairs are not the best (or even average) qualified. They will also deny covered repairs because of apparent "misuse" without any evidence of what the misuse is. They will be generous enough though to offer a second opinion at another $75 charge.

This is my first contract for appliance warranty with American Home Shield. I think it will be my last. In July 16 I placed a service call for a Kenmore dishwasher[ 2 years old] that was inoperable. AHS sent a contractor out to repair the appliance. First contactor couldn't repair the item. AHS sent a second contractor out to repair the item , this contractor made two visits to repair the item. The second contractor could not repair the item. AHS sent a third contractor. This contractor made 4 visits and couldn't fix the dishwasher. This contractor has indicated that they have contacted AHS and told them they couldn't fix the item. AHS indicates they have no record of the call .... Read More

We had a convection microwave that quit working. I called American Home Shield and told them that the microwave was not heating. We had a call the next day from the service company that was sending out a repairman the next day. He was extremely knowledgeable about our microwave but did not have one of the parts he needed to replace. He ordered it as we talked and returned two days later to repair the microwave. The serviceman was efficient. timely and very professional. American Home Shield contracts with reliable repair companies that care about customer service.

AHS is a very respectable company providing a great service to many Americans. My recent dealings with AHS, they provided me with very timely service and an outstanding, friendly contractor. He diagnosed the issue very quickly and cleaned up promptly afterward. Although he couldn't resolve my issue, he reported the issue so we could make a decision quickly on getting our appliance replaced and our lives back to normal.

My experience with American Home Shield was as always professional and pleasant. The phone call was quick, the contractor got back to us in a timely manner and repairs were done as quickly and well as could be expected. We are landlords of two property in two different states and we depend on AHS for all of our repair needs.

After a warranty call to AHS Mr.Appliance was dispatched to my home. This is not the first time they have been to my home to provide service through AHS and I am actually quite familiar with them. Even this tech has been to my house previously. On this occasion Victor Parker the service tech misdiagnosed a leak with my dishwasher. We had called because there was water under our dishwasher and we were hoping we caught it before any damage was done. The tech removed the front kick plate and diagnosed the problem as a leaking pump and motor. After the service was finished and we were given the green light to use the dishwasher again we noticed after the weekend that the hardwood floor in our... Read More
