Overall Rating: 4.7 / 5 (Excellent)

American Home Shield's coverage is among the most comprehensive we've seen in the industry. The company covers considerably more appliances and systems than its competitors and has fewer coverage limitations.

The company recently updated its plans—they now have three to simplify choosing the right one for your home. American Home Shield focuses on the repairs that offer the most value to consumers, removing items that are inexpensive to replace, increasing its coverage limits on appliances in its most expensive plan to reflect today's higher-priced, "gourmet" appliances, and adding roof leak coverage.

Coverage Options - 4.7 / 5

American Home Shield offers consumers a choice of three plans, following a good-better-best model. Its ShieldSilver plan warrants systems only, but can be amended with certain add-ons, including pools, electronics, and guest houses. Its ShieldGold plan covers a range of systems and appliances, again with add-on options. Its ShieldPlatinum plan covers everything in the ShieldGold plan, plus roof leaks up to $1500 and some routine maintenance services. These include free HVAC tune-ups, unlimited top ups on your AC refrigerant, coverage for code violations including permits.

All told, American Home Shield covers 23 systems and appliances, considerably more than most of their competitors, and fully covers 11 of those items. There is no limit on the number of claims a customer can file over the year’s contract, either.

Contract & Price - 5 / 5

American Home Shield has a flexible pricing policy and offers three different coverage plans and two trade service call fee levels: $100 and $125.

This allows consumers to have input into the annual price based on their budgetary needs.

We requested a quote for a single family home under 5,000 square feet located in a medium-sized midwestern city. The minimum annual premium (Shield Silver Plan) was $59.99 per month. The maximum premium (Shield Platinum Plan) was $109.99. So AHS prices are somewhat higher than many competitive plans. Consumers should note that their final price will vary by plan, service call charge selected, and location.

I am a new customer with them and am not pleased, I had to call them twice today and was welcomed with a wait time over 30 minutes only for my issue to not be resolved. Even their quick chat on their website had an estimated wait time of 67 minutes. Worst customer service, their call center employees don't even sound like they want to be there, not happy, just want what I am promised and in a timely manner. Not Happy!

Our most recent experience was an issue with our AC. The customer service rep was awesome. He got us in contact with the service provider and he was out to look at the situation and came back a few days later and resolved the issue. They too were excellent. Thank you for the excellent service you provide

This is the absolute worst service I have ever received from a provider. First I get three different phone calls reminding me my appointment was 8-10 this morning. It would have to be no later than 10 because I need to be to work by Noon. At 1030 when I call to find out where the technician was, I was on hold for 50 minutes. No lie. Then the CSR has the nerve to tell me if I leave and the guy comes to my house, I'll be charged. On top of that she also tried to tell me that my appointment time was from 9-11. In that 50 minutes on hold, I decided to cancel my contract. If this was my first experience what would the rest of them be like!!! Bye Bye!!

This is the worst company I have ever dealt with. My air conditioner breaks in Phoenix, Arizona when its 113 degrees out I'm told to wait 5 days for service which by Arizona terms is a very long time to wait. Then the contractor they used decides to not service me and when I call back I'm told that they have no open slots for an additional 2 weeks and I should seek a hotel or consider a vacation.

I havent had a need to use the service since 2014 but the experience with the HVAC contractor went very well. In fact, I switched the annual maintenance service for the heating and A/C units to this new contractor due to their attention to detail, expert work and courtesy.

Your service was prompt. The representatives were knowledgeable and polite. They outlines exactly how the process worked and were able to efficiently get me to whomever I needed to speak with. When we decided that I needed a new appliance, after several visits from the repair persons ,you promptly authorized me to shop and purchase a new appliance. After purchasing the appliance, I received the reimbursement check as promised, in the amt. promised in a timely manner.

I have a very bad experience with this American Home Shield company. The company slogan is "worries less, live more" but actually, it should be "worries more, live less and burn your cash". Here was my story. I had 2 properties in home warranty with this company and I had never requested a service before. On June 14th 2016, my water heater was broken and the water leaked everywhere. I called in and there was a technician. They shut down hot water, water did not leak any more. But after that, I tried 5 calls, 3 chats, 2 emails for 3 weeks and the issue was still there. The worst part was their customer service, I had to wait each time around 50 minutes to 90 minutes. Sometime I got cut off... Read More

When my air conditioner compressor fan failed .AHS was there with a fast response and the Repairman, that was sent out, even had the replacement parts on the truck. Within 2 days of making my call to AHS on a Sunday, the repairman arrived and in just a few hours I was back in a nice cool home.

The customer service people go above and beyond to help you get the best coverage for your dollar. They explain everything very clearly..I love working with this company. I have not had to use them yet , but feel more comfortable about fees that will cover service.

The last time I had anything done that I had to go through American Home Shield was the summer time in 2004 for my air conditioner. My house is about 30-years old. I have the same air conditioner for my house since it was built. But it still works like brand new. Thank God. So when I needed a part for my conditioner and the company comfort first requested American Home Shield to pay for the part, I didn't have any problem. It was done with no question asked. I have been with American Home Shield for years now and I have been well pleased. Thank you!!!!
